More Than Just a Recorded Yoga Class

I initially wrote this blog in September 2021 after spending hours editing 6 months of recorded yoga class videos. If you are a student of mine, you have access to that library of past classes. What I shared that day was a reflection of my ego, releasing judgment, and understanding that what we created together was much bigger than a yoga class recording.
I resisted sitting down to edit past yoga class videos for a long, long time. I knew that I wasn’t ready to revisit those days immediately. I also knew I was experimenting with technology and I wasn’t happy with how some of them turned out (or didn’t). The insignificant task of editing videos brings up lots of opportunities to practice my yoga. 😊 I have to remind myself to not be judgmental when I feel like my teaching energy is insufficient or I don’t like my speech patterns.
As I take time to edit each class, I am reminded why my energy and the energy of the class is a certain way. We moved through the anxiety of the Derek Chauvin trial and the militarization of our Minneapolis neighborhoods, to the relief of the verdict, to the hopefulness of vaccinations in early spring to the realization that the pandemic may not be “over” in the way that we’d like. These recordings are a gift - a snapshot of that time and how we showed up for ourselves, for one another, for our community, and I get emotional as I revisit them. Just something to reflect on when you hit play on a recorded class...it is not just another yoga class, it is a record of how we spent our time and the energy we carried with us.❤️
