Seasonal Fatigue...fight it or work with it?
Ahndi Fridell | SEP 13, 2023
Welcome to fall! The shorter and cooler days came fast in the last two weeks, didn't they? Along with the seasonal changes, have you noticed any changes in how you feel? As I attempt to maintain the same level of activity as I did over the summer, I find that I am exhausted by the end of each day. Have you heard of seasonal fatigue? (it is new to me!) It involves feelings of tiredness that comes from shorter days disrupting your circadian rhythm - sleep patterns and waking cycles. They recommend you soak up as much sun as you can, exercise, balanced eating and drinking and maybe try for an hour or two more of sleep.
The seasonal change is a good reminder that it is okay to shift, slow down and adjust my schedule. I particularly like to practice restorative or yin yoga at this time of year. Whatever practice allows you to slow down and restore, it is always a good time to prioritize it, but definitely don't neglect it now!
If you are interested in joining me this weekend, I will be leading two Yin and Pin workshops with acupuncturist Libby Weibel at Up Yoga, 4325 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55409. Friday, Sept 15 at 7pm has just a few spots left and Saturday, Sept 16 at 5pm has plenty of room to register. For registration information, go to the Up Yoga Events page and scroll down: https://www.upyogamn.com/events
We have a few more weeks of outdoor practice in the Rose Garden. Once October arrives, we will move indoors to the Center for Performing Arts space. Practicing outdoors is a magical experience! Join us Sundays at 10am.
Take care,
Ahndi
